Small Things I Do When I Don't Feel Like Myself

Do you ever wake up in the morning and not feel like yourself? Sometimes the thought of getting out of bed in the morning can be a little too much and you just want to curl back under the duvet and hide from the world. As much as I would like to do that some days I know that for the sake of my mental health I should fight back and drag myself out of bed in the morning. A few years ago, I would spent so many of my days in bed and as a result of doing nothing all day I would feel tired and unmotivated. So, in order to prevent myself from going back into the same old habits I thought I’d share some things I do when I really don’t feel like getting up in the morning but know I should try and do something to keep myself busy and my mind at peace.

Make a cup of tea (or coffee)

There’s something about having a cup of tea in the morning that sets me up for the day. Just taking the time in the morning to sit with a nice hot drink and plan the day ahead really clears my mind and I feel so much more motivated to get on with my day.

Exercise

If I was having one of my “off days” and someone told me to exercise I would I would have wanted to cry but it wasn’t until I started going to the gym with my boyfriend that made me realise just how much more positive I feel after working out. I know the thought of going to the gym or for a run or any type of exercise for that matter is awful but I can’t stress enough how much better I feel both psychically and mentally afterwards.

Shower, Get Dressed + Do My Makeup

Being someone who has previously suffered from acne and self confidence in general I have found that showering, putting on a nice yet comfy outfit and taking my time to do my makeup in the morning makes me feel so much better about myself and I feel as though I can accomplish anything! I know so many people that would much rather stay in their pj’s all day and it isn’t an issue for them but to me I have to get dressed otherwise I will just want to climb back into bed. As far as makeup is concerned I don’t rely on it to be happy, I am so much more confident in my own skin now more than I ever have been in the past but sometimes when I just don’t feel my best, sitting down and watching a YouTube video and applying some makeup makes me feel so much better.

Leave the House

I don’t know about you but I am so much more productive when I’m not at home – I think I just associate my house with my time to chill out and lie in bed so if I actually want to make something of my day I need to escape for a little while. Right now, I’m actually sitting writing this post in a coffee shop with a chai latte in hand! If you’re having a pretty rough day you could also arrange to meet some friends for lunch or a coffee. And if you just want to be in your own company you could sit in your garden or local park with a book.

If there’s one thing you take from this post, I hope you realise that no matter who you are everyone has bad days. Take each day at your own pace and you can accomplish anything you put your mind to.
